I am currently at useR! 2011 at the University of Warwick. It is really exciting to meet so many users of R – especially to see the people you know by name from mailing list, books, and help documents of core classes like Anthony Unwin, Brian Ripley, Paul Murrel, Rainer M. Krug, Barry Rowlingson…

I won’t write about the sessions that I visit, but let me say the variety of topics is impressive.  440 participnts – around 340 from Europe, 60 from the US, and even people from Oceania and Africa  – of any imaginable field. This is my largest conference ever, squeezing knowledge and experiences into five parallel tracks of very specific topics.

I also looking forward to the new “ligthning talks”, 5 minutes in pecha kucha style about a certain topic. Tomorrow I will give my presentation about sos4R, naturally. I really look forward to getting feedback from heavy R users and non-SWE specialists in particular. There is an eager and interested audience in every session so far, so it is hard not to have high expectations :-). We’ll see, more on that soon.
